Rainbow Days

Isn't this a lovely calendar for your desktop? Best thing is that it can be used year after year. Worst thing is that I can't remember where the thing can be bought, only that I discovered the image on FFFFOUND!

Night Drive

I hadn't realized that I could do a sort of long exposure with my digital camera. I found out quite by accident. This is one of my favorite results.

Neon Heartstrings

I snapped this photo while in Reno. I just loved the retro look of the sign, it was in pretty good shape. I can't say the same for the motel itself, although it was right on the strip - which isn't saying very much at all.

The Bizness

If I had an extra $2,195 dollars in my pocket (insert guffaw here) I'd love this bag. What I really like about the Dolce & Gabbana Miss Biz Dome Satchel is the extra strap so that it can be put over the shoulder, because lord knows a bag that big would be filled up by a person like me.

Pretty Awesome

My lovely blog friends Mary and Rob, formerly of South End Blend, have moved! Please go and visit their special kind of magic at their new place Pretty Good, which is, I must say pretty darn gorgeous.

If My Dad Owned A Bike Store

If my dad owned a bike store, this could be the sign. My first bike was a Schwinn, and lord was it ugly. I didn't get my very first bike until I was pretty old. I'm a middle child and I got lost in the sauce there. I didn't even know how to ride a bike until I was in the 4th grade. No one taught me how, I had to figure it out on my own, and when I finally did, nobody even noticed that I had finally gotten around to it. My mom drove right past me in her car when I was on my inaugural ride around the block on my little sisters bike. I saw her and then my knees hit the handlebars because my legs were too long, causing me to fall and sprain my wrist.

When I had saved enough money to buy a bike, I wanted a mountain bike. I grew up in Marin, home of off-road cycling, and trail bikes were all the rage. I ended up with a cheesy Schwinn imitation of a mountain bike, red with hideous white handlebar grips and brake lines, the kind that turned very dirty with use. I had to wear a red and white bike helmet that made me look like a gigantic toadstool. Glamorous I was not. I had that bike for years and eventually I left it at my boyfriend's cousin's apartment where it disappeared. My dad, Pat, never let me forget it.

Jam On! ( may be NSFW)

How did I miss this? I'm so off my music game. This is a great collaboration featuring the always awesome David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal, and it comes from the clever musical mind of Brighton's Big Beat master Fatboy Slim. He's working under the name of the Brighton Port Authority and the new album will include collaborations with artists Lateef, Martha Wainwright, Iggy Pop, Pete York, Jack Penate and many others. I can't wait to hear the rest.

O Yeah!

Congratulations to President Elect Barack Obama! Thank you to everyone who went out and voted, we did it! I look forward to a reinvigorated United States. Today I was really proud to be an American, this was our most historic moment as voters and as a nation.

Text of Obama's victory speech can be found here at NPR

A Hope and A Dream Before Bedtime

Starlight, star bright, I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight!
(I'm writing it on a piece of paper and putting it under my pillow to dream on.)

Purple Rainclouds

It was rainy all day again, and therefore I stayed indoors and caught up on the interwebs. I came across this image on FFFFound! and thought that it was delightfully apropos. I was tickled by the swoopy purple cloud formations, and the dish-dashy rain. Such whimsy!

Good Times

This reminds me of 5th grade. I was a Micheal Jackson freak. This album still sounds sweet. Good times. I'm going to listen to PYT.

Vote No on Proposition 8

Everyone should have the right to marry the person that they love.

Bits, Bytes and Great Heights

This video was recommended to me by YouTube, and I had actually never seen it. I love this song, it's still just as beautiful as it was the first time I heard it. But, as I was watching it I was struck by how much our lives are influenced by technology, bits and bytes, zeros and ones. Computers influence so much of our interactions, and I can go a year without seeing friends who live less than 40 miles away because emails and phone calls substitute for real visits. I want more of the real thing!

November Precipitation

It's raining buckets here in Northern California, something that we definitely need. Next weekend I'm heading up the coast to Eureka to attend the wedding of my awesome friend Lisa. I sent her a teasing text message today asking if her first dance was going to be to this song... Enjoy, and stay dry!

(btw, Lisa would shred like Slash's very own sister if it were available on Rock Band, just sayin')
